Sabeen Perwaiz, the Executive Director of Florida Nonprofit Alliance, has always been involved in nonprofits, whether through volunteering or serving on boards. Since 2016, she has worked on behalf of nonprofits as an advocate with FNA. While working with the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce on an initiative for workforce development, Perwaiz received the opportunity to join the organization.

Though Kristen Merrifield now serves as the CEO of the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits, she did not start out with plans to work in the nonprofit sector. Initially, she wanted to be a banker because she loved numbers. In fact, when she began working at the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Small Business, she thought the position would be outside of her comfort zone.

Having spent her entire career working with nonprofits, Dr. Leah Weiner recognized a need in the sector for upper level education. She served as an Executive Director and a Development Director, and has experience in both small and large nonprofits. She completed a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management and a doctorate program in Organizational Leadership, but afterwards, she wanted more opportunities to learn in leadership training and development programs.

Gian-Carl Casa has the unique distinction of being the first president and CEO of the Connecticut Community Nonprofit Alliance (The Alliance). Before taking the position in 2016, Casa had years of experience that prepared him for the role. For over two decades, he worked for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, ending his time there as Director of Public Policy and Advocacy. Following that, he was asked by the newly elected Governor of Connecticut to serve as Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs at the Office of Policy and Management. Now, as The Alliance president and CEO, Casa says that he and the organization are aiming to be the statewide voice of nonprofits, especially when it comes to advocacy. “Advocacy is the focal point of what we do,” he says.
